Take the weight down and the cloth stops holding a shape, which is why light denim so often ends up as a soft, unstructured piece with no detail you can see. Polyester Spandex Denim is the answer to that. At 200g/m² it is genuinely light, but the 95% polyester base keeps it crisp, so a boxy shirt keeps its line, patch pockets sit flat, and topstitching reads the way it's meant to. That makes it the natural pick for the utility direction that has been running through denim for several seasons, workwear pockets, contrast stitching, short co-ords, and for transitional ranges that want a denim layer without the weight. The New Sunshine finish sets the faded look without a laundry stage.

- Test the topstitching first. Utility detailing is where this cloth earns its place, and polyester puckers or skips if the tension and stitch length are wrong.
- Mind the needle temperature. At this weight the plies are thin, so heat builds faster than it would in a heavier denim.
- Use the permanent crease deliberately. Polyester holds a press, which is an advantage on pleats and trouser creases and a liability everywhere else.
- Check seam strength on a made-up sample. A smooth, low-friction face can let a seam open under strain.
- Trim the banded selvedge clear of the marker. Left in, the banding stiffens a seam on a cloth this light.
