Pre-production Considerations
Given that this fabric is lightweight and 100% cotton, special attention should be paid to the following details during production:
- Pre-shrinking is essential: Untreated all-cotton denim can shrink by more than 10%. Although the fabric undergoes anti-shrinkage treatment at the factory, high-temperature ironing during garment manufacturing can still trigger secondary shrinkage.
- Strongly recommended: Before cutting, gently wash the entire roll of fabric in cold water (below 30°C) and lay it flat to dry in the shade. This releases most of the potential shrinkage beforehand, keeping the finished garment's shrinkage rate within 1%.
Classic plain weave denim fabric tips:
Dark-colored fabrics tend to bleed significantly during the first wash, so they must be washed separately. For high-standard orders, cut a small test swatch (e.g., 10cm x 10cm) to accurately calculate the shrinkage rate and adjust pattern dimensions accordingly.
Accurately identify the fabric grain:
Although plain weave fabrics look the same on both sides, they still have distinct warp and weft directions. Incorrect cutting orientation can cause the garment to twist or warp after washing.
Correct procedure:
When cutting, ensure the "warp line" on the pattern is parallel to the fabric selvage (the direction of the warp yarns). Maintain consistent orientation across all pattern pieces to prevent uneven shrinkage after washing.
Watch for fabric imperfections:
The surface of raw cotton fabric may contain tiny impurities, such as cotton seed fragments. Inspect the fabric carefully during cutting and avoid obvious defects (such as skipped stitches or color variations) to ensure a high-quality finished product.
