Products Description

Double-sided Nano Stripe advantage:

Stripes on fleece have a scale problem. A bold stripe reads as sportswear or pyjamas, which is why so much of it ends up in kids' ranges and nowhere else. A fine stripe behaves differently: close up you see the line, and from across a room it reads as a soft tone, nearer a texture than a pattern. Double-sided Nano Stripe is built at that scale, and it gives a designer two things at once. Both faces are finished, so a facing, cuff or placket can show the reverse: one cloth, a clean contrast, or a piece that genuinely reverses. And 185cm is unusually wide for a knit, so the largest panels run whole and the stripe can be turned or run across the body without a join. At 300g/m² the cloth holds a collar, a hood or a wrap front on its own.

1/ A fine stripe, not a loud one. It reads as texture close up and as tone from across a room.

2/ Both faces are finished. Facings, cuffs and plackets can show the reverse, and a reversible piece needs no second cloth.

3/ 185cm wide. The largest panels cut in one piece, and the yield is where the money is.

4/ Weight for outerwear. At 300g/m² it holds a collar, hood or wrap front without a lining.

Current Market Direction

The stripe has come back into fleece, but not the loud one. Retailers are choosing fine stripes and micro patterns because they photograph well, wear neutrally and let a garment pass in more than one setting, which is the ground this quality occupies. The stripe is knitted in rather than printed, so it is not sitting on the surface waiting to crack, and the double-sided construction means an open front or a folded cuff shows the same design on both faces. Viscose in the blend keeps the hand soft enough for the cloth to be sold as a garment rather than as an accessory. Where this could go next: a wider stripe for statement pieces, a finer gauge for shirting weights, and a two-colour version for private label.

Processing Recommendations

Double-sided Nano Stripe processing recommendations:

  1. Match the stripe to the pattern, not to the eye. Mark where a key stripe sits on each piece and set the seams to it; a break shows first at the centre front and side seam.
  2. Let the panels rest before joining. A knitted stripe can bow once it is off the lay, and a bow that looks minor on the table is obvious along a hem.
  3. Decide the direction once and record it. Vertical to lengthen, horizontal across the body, or turned in a single panel as a deliberate break.
  4. Watch which face is up in the lay. Both sides are usable, so a flipped panel changes the tone, and it won't show until the piece is made up.
  5. Trim the bulky joins. At 300g/m² a double-thickness seam at a cuff or hood reads as a ridge under a fine stripe.

Why Partner with Us?

Nothing about a specification here is fixed beyond the point that matters. Weight, stretch recovery and surface texture are all adjustable, and a second round of changes after your first sample is normal rather than awkward: the stripe can be re-gauged, the hand softened, the width tuned to your marker. On timing, base stock is produced through the year at full capacity instead of in seasonal pushes, so a peak-season shortage is not something you have to plan around, and a call-off can be answered immediately. Bring the pattern you are working to and tell us where it fights the cloth; that is usually the shortest route to a specification that fits.

Melange Polar Fleece advantage:

Fleece used to be the layer nobody styled: it went under a shell and was bought on warmth per gram. Then fleece jackets started being worn as the outer layer, and the brief for the cloth changed with them. It has to be warm, soft enough for skin, and good enough that nobody reaches for a coat to cover it up. Melange Polar Fleece answers the second half of that. The heather comes from the yarn, not a print, so the surface has depth and a slight irregularity flat colour doesn't, which is why designers reach for it on oversized pieces and half-zips. At 250g/m² it sits in the useful middle: warm enough for a jacket in spring and autumn, light enough to layer under a shell in winter. The Warm Core Cashmere finish gives it the brushed, cashmere-soft hand that lets it stand on its own, and 175cm means oversized panels come out in one piece.

1/ Warm for its weight. It covers a jacket in spring and autumn, and layers under a shell in winter.

2/ Melange depth. The heather comes from the yarn, so a big garment never reads flat.

3/ 175cm wide. Oversized panels cut in one piece, so less waste.

4/ Soft enough for skin. The Warm Core Cashmere finish lets a fleece be worn alone.

Processing Recommendations

Melange Polar Fleece processing recommendations:

01/

Keep the pile running one way. A brushed surface has a nap, and reversed panels show as a tone change under shop light.

02/

Use a ballpoint needle and light foot pressure. A sharp point cuts the knit; heavy pressure flattens the pile.

03/

Never press onto the pile. Heat crushes the brush for good, so press from the back or through a cloth at low temperature.

04/

Finish every cut edge. Brushed fleece sheds fibre, so bind or coverstitch necks, cuffs and hems.

05/

Clean the table and blade between lays. Fibre from the last colour shows through a light melange.

Why Partner with Us?

What decides this in the end is who you're buying from. We knit Melange Polar Fleece ourselves rather than buying it in, so it sits in stock instead of waiting on a mill queue, and repeats land on the same shade because the yarn is booked the same way each time. Fleece is the only thing we've ever made, which is why we'd rather talk about yield and shrinkage than price. You deal with the people who make the cloth, questions get answered the same day, and if a shade needs matching we walk to the shelf. Tell us the style and where it's selling, and we'll say whether this weight carries it.
